Pine Lake Preparatory School
Beacon Partners worked with Pine Lake Preparatory charter school board to develop a new 22 acre campus program in Mooresville, NC in 2008. The campus is designed to accommodate roughly 1,400 students between K-12, utilizing a sustainable design approach. Examples include:
- The site development is intended to minimize impacts to existing stream channels and identified wetlands. Where stream crossings occurred, Beacon designed bottomless crossings, so as to not disturb the stream channels
- The campus construction utilized locally procured materials, finishes with high recycled content, and low VOC paints/adhesives
- Energy efficiency buildings utilize HVAC equipment that has exceeded the NC Code and ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Standards by 15%
- The campus building automation control system uses advanced energy savings strategies to manage CO2 ventilation modulation, morning warm-up with optimum start, and advanced scheduling
- Currently the school utilizes the green technologies as teaching tools for the middle and upper school
